Thermal Auricular Therapy

More commonly known as Hopi Ear Candling after the Native American tribe who used this method for treating ear, nose and throat problems.

I always start and end my treatments with a gentle facial massage of meridian points and lymphatic drainage points to enhance the effectiveness of the treatment.

A candle shaped tube made of cotton/linen which has been seeped in honey, beeswax, sage, chamomile and St John’s Wort and sometimes added essential oils, is inserted gently into the ear and then lit.  The heat from the candle forms a chimney effect which sucks detritus from the ear and prevents anything falling back into the ear. The candle is held in place the whole time so there is no risk of injury.

During the treatment, you can will hear hissing and crackling as the candle burns down, but this is perfectly normal and very therapeutic (if you can imagine watching an open fire these are the types of sounds you will hear).
